New interview with author Ronald Ady Crouch

Ronald Ady Crouch was born in Brighton, England and  has worked in the U.K. and Canada for over thirty years as a police officer.  He has extensive international travel experience while working with the British Merchant Navy as a navigator, where he travelled extensively in the Middle East  and throughout Europe.

He is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying wilderness camping throughout the year.  With a love of nature, he also paints with watercolors.

Ron has always had a passion for writing which started in his early years. He enjoys writing in various genres, both adult and children's fiction. He continues to write from his home in Ontario, Canada.

BWL:  How long have you been writing and in what genres?

RAC: I have been writing about 25 years.  It started with children’s stories, later evolving into adult crime and romance.

BWL:  Where do you get your inspiration?

RAC: Initially reading to my own children, the Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame and books by Roald Dahl.  The adult stories germinated from my experience working as a police officer in the U.K. and Canada.

BWL:  Tell us about your book(s).

RAC: O’Malley’s Cottage is my first officially published book with BWL.  The story begins in Toronto and ends on the outskirts of Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario.  A successful lawyer is caught cheating by his wife.  She and their young daughter move out of the city to find peace and re-evaluate their lives.  They rent O’Malley’s Cottage from an old farming couple they come to adore.   In an effort to save her pony from the slaughter house, young Emma disappears into the wilderness with the pony days before Christmas.  Her mother, Rebecca is tested yet again to breaking point.

BWL:  What about your next book?  Will it be part of a series or a stand alone?  Can you give us a taste to whet our appetites?

RAC: Spithandle Lane.  This is a crime novel set in rural England.  It is a story that poses a moral dilemma for the protagonist, Harry Davidson.  The rural policeman, Alaister McMaster discovers a dark secret.  The moral dilemma passes to his shoulders.  It will be a stand alone book, however, I am going to be working on a second crime novel, based in Canada.  This one I intend to be part of a series.  I am going to create my own character, somewhere between Lee Child’s Jack Reacher and James Lee Burke’s Dave Robicheaux.

BWL:  Why did you choose to publish electronically?

RAC: The truth?  BWL took me aboard as one of their authors, and  from everything I’ve been listening to on the CBC radio, electronic publishing is the way of the present and the future.

BWL:  What are your hobbies and interests?

RAC: Writing.  Water colour painting, martial arts, mountain biking, backpacking, winter camping, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.

BWL:  What does the future hold for you?

RAC: I plan to retire in the next two years and am going to start writing full time.  So look for more romance, crime and children’s stories.

BWL:  Where can readers find you?
