Until Next Time (The Angel Chronicles, #1)Until Next Time by Amy Lignor
ebook, 1st Edtion, 255 pages

My rating: ♥♥♥♥

How does a girl choose between the one who steals her heart and the one who owns her soul?

Matt and Emily were created for a specific job. Raised and trained as the ultimate angel/warrior team, they are sent down to save, defend, judge and forgive, depending on the 'life' they've been assigned. What they don't realize is that the power of human emotions, such as love, anger, passion and fear can take over even the best of souls, causing them to make mistakes and follow paths that lead to confusion and heartache.

When the reason for their training is finally revealed, the angel/warrior team find themselves thrust into a world they know nothing about. Matt takes over the life of Daniel, a young man with a great deal of baggage. Emily becomes Liz, a girl living in a remote village who relies on nothing more than her own strength to survive. A violent storm erupts one night, and framed in the window of Liz's establishment is a frightening face. Let in by the soul of a Good Samaritan, the two visitors bring with them a past full of secrets that could literally change an angel's path and a warrior's plans.

From murder to redemption, this angel/warrior team must find a way to keep the faith they have in each other in a world that's ripping them apart.
I received a free copy of this book, per the blog tour, for an honest review!

The Gothic glamtastic cover sold me. The text...that pose, the cracking crusted heart....YES, yes and yes! The model sort of reminds me of Jessica Alba. (I'm just saying! *smiles*) And then it's an angel paranormal novel. It's always interesting to read a story with angels who have issues of the human variety.

The synopsis can be confusing, so I suggest do a one over glace, hop into the story, and use it as a refresher later. I like how this book analysed the difference between a soul mate and a kindred spirit , and finding a way to mingle it all into a very different love triangle. I'm not opposed to love triangles. I'm opposed to BAD love triangles. You know the ones where one guy has zero chance, or then the chick is so "easy" it's more like a Ménage à trois. Any who, this trio was an interesting grouping. I have no complaints on that! Good job!

The story line did not disappoint. It had dark, mysterious creepy undertones. Matt and Emily are angels sent to earth, placed into bodies of spirits who've technically "moved on" to the afterlife already. With each new life, they have a mission to complete. From the story, the reader is lead to believe either this had happened before or will continue to happen for the characters throughout the series. The bodies of which they take over have issues mentally that gives the story an emo feel.

This was slick a historical fiction. I wasn't expecting that. I was a little disappointed but not too overly distraught. I just hope the next book is during a more interesting time.

Overall this book was definitely original. It was a very promising start to very promising series. I look forward to the next installment.

The Last Cowboy in Texas by Pat Dale

Words mean things. And Paige Turner (yes, that’s her real name), should know that better than anyone. Associate editor of the Flanders Herald, she’s buried herself in word-smithing for the better part of a decade as she labors at her father’s newspaper. But when she unleashes some well-deserved but incendiary words for her former boyfriend, she unwittingly sets into motion a chain of events that will change her life forever.

Troy Roberts has assumed control of his dad’s real estate business in this sleepy little suburb of Branson. With youthful exuberance, he tackles the formidable but rewarding task of turning some of Stone County’s pristine hills into sites for mansions worthy of the musical elite who inhabit the southern Missouri showbiz Mecca. One small problem; some woman scientist claims to have discovered endangered species on his property. Between Agatha Kingfisher’s environmental zeal and Paige’s fiery tongue, Troy may have bitten off more than he can chew.

Oh, yes, those infamous words: “Troy Roberts, I wouldn’t go to bed with you if you were the last cowboy in Texas!” Well, we’ll see about that…

Red Magic by Juliet Waldron

Red-headed Caterina von Velsen, a tomboy and superb horsewoman, detests her older sister's husband-to-be.  Christoph von Hagen is handsome and brave, but he is also a Casanova, a man with a reputation that stretches from his mountain manor all the way to Vienna.  When Caterina’s older sister dies in a riding accident only a week before her wedding, Caterina is forced to take her place. She now belongs to a man she firmly believes to be “a cold-hearted rake.”

There is magic in Christoph’s lonely mountain home, as well as in the locket Caterina’s aunt gave her long ago.  Misunderstandings and preconceptions hinder the coming of true love, as well as the strange attraction she feels toward her husband’s magnetic, foreign horse master. Set in 18th Century Germany, RED MAGIC tells the story of a young woman’s transition from rebellious girl to adored--and adoring--wife.

Jaci Eastman is inadvertently drawn through time to 1874 when she photographs a restored carousel. She lands at Wildwood horse farm and must rely on the good graces of its owner, Nicholas Westbrooke.

Nicholas is a man who likes routine, but Jaci unwittingly shatters his illusions about women, passion and love. She tells stories of flying machines and teaches science to his niece. She's outrageous in her dress, manners and language, and yet he finds her irresistible.

Jaci has always believed only reality can be photographed. But then she falls in love with Nicholas. When he begins carving the exact horse that transported her through time, will she use it to return to the present, or stay and create a new reality?

"Wow. Double Wow! Carousel is an outstanding book…I loved that when the passion got intense between the two, Nicholas never forgot his honor as a gentleman with Jaci." ~ Cheryl, 5 Angels and Recommended Read by Fallen Angel Reviews

"Barbara Baldwin just put another keeper on my bookshelf. Jaci is independent and just what the strong, sexy, and oh so enticing Nicholas needs. I loved this book! Sexy and the romance is steeped deep so that you fall in love with her characters and can't help but cheer for them." ~Simply Romance Reviews

Cultural Alternatives to Drug and Alcohol Addiction by John Wisdomkeeper

In traditional times the problems of Native Youth were of great concern to the entire tribe. The Youth were the hope of the future and their instruction was overseen by wise and loving Elders.

Drugs and alcohol destroy the body, mind and spirit and make a mockery of the Sundance. The Sundance is an ancient ritual that pays tribute to mother earth and the four seasons.

Sundancers represent the courage, strength and stamina of our people, and in these modern times they are a strong statement of the determination of our Nation not to be destroyed but to rebuild in strength and unity.

Native youth are a vital part of our Vision for the future. Drugs and alcohol destroy that Vision.

Dreamheart Spotlight #14

Wendy F. Poole, 22 year old sweetheart with a girl next door look, is an aspiring model who loves to be in front of the camera. “I don’t even really care about the money in modeling I care more about helping people out and enjoying what I am doing,” she said.

Wendy’s motivation to venture down the road of flashing bulbs and electric poses was kindled by a passion for fashion. “Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to design clothes but fear of the highly competitive industry has lead me into modeling where maybe one day I will find a connection to the fashion industry and maybe get some of my ideas out there.”

Though sidetracked for the moment, post college graduation Wendy plans to return her dreams of styling, if not calculating, the runway rather than merely walking it. “Once I make some money and settle into a career I would love nothing more than to go back and attend a fashion school and then go on to get a masters degree in marketing. One day I would if things align I would love to become a Fashion Marketer.”

Wendy has overcome personal obstacles in her life.
“One thing not a lot of people know about me is my mom went through cancer while I was in high school and I went to great measures to deal with everything. I went through a hard time but came out of it believing and knowing hope can be a good thing. She is doing well now and I thank god everyday for all the miracles he has shown me in life. and loving This experience has only made me stronger and made me realize life is too short to wait for your dreams to come true you have to work hard to make them come true.”

Her goals are not typical for a model. “I know most of the girls who model want to make the most money but I want to make the most connections and make the right choices along the way.”

"Also to keep a positive reputation and take every opportunity as they come. My ultimate goal is to one day complete a job that will be seen on a National level. I see myself as being highly successful because of my attitude and willingness to work hard and stop at nothing. I think attitude is everything in this industry." She said.

Wendy is an advocate for fitness. She loves yoga in particular saying, “I exercise about five times a week.” In conjunction, she’s also mindful of her consumption. “I try not to eat bad things like sweets and high fat content foods. However I am still human and love sweets but only in moderation.”

Wendy went on to say, “I do not have an agent nor am I a part of a modeling agency. I am currently looking for a good offer or someone who as serious as I am about getting me to where I need to be in the industry and also teaching me the ropes as we go.”
“I am available to travel and can work part time hours. I make school a priority on Tuesdays and Thursdays but that will change when I graduate,” she said.

With this article, Wendy hopes to inspire others and act as a mentor. “I am not an unrealistic person and I understand everyone is different. Just remember you are perfect no matter what and everyone is a star in some way or another.”

Wendy has also been in commericals!

Client Mock Up: Hair Show #3

Everything is coming along.  Looks like I need to reinvest in a male dress form.  I sold my last one back when I was living in Germany b/c I went over my household goods weight allowance; and it would have cost too much to ship paying out of pocket.

Any who, my female dress form is getting the job done!

I still plan on having a fitting with the muslin mock up on Sunday @ Noon.

Cheers,

When I read about Dr Alex's undecipherable handwriting and his pushback to use computers, it bubbled up for me fun memories and laughter. Alex's habit to "speak first, then think", not understanding women from his Mars lookout, and the energy of the 9 year old twins is reality. Flames of Prophecy by Judith Pittman

Lady Marta is born to a noble family. She grows up in a country manor like any other lady, but she has a secret bloodline--she is sole heir to the throne of Moldavia. Driven out by the Turks, her father took refuge in England as a young man. Here he married and lived quietly, hoping to escape his enemies. There is more than royalty in Marta's background, however, there is magic, too, for she descends from seers. As she matures it becomes clear she too has the "gift" (or perhaps, "curse") of foresight. This is respected in the East, but in England prophecy is dangerous, for it is connected with witchcraft.

As Marta grows to womanhood, every day is filled with danger. First, Turkish assassins, who want the last Christian heir to the Moldavian throne dead, stalk her. Then the handsome, worldly Russian prince who is contracted to marry her arrives with a jealous, murderous lover in tow. When King Henry, the family's protector, dies, his unstable daughter Mary comes to the throne. Queen Mary dislikes Marta and is eager to burn all heretics and "witches." Written in a colorful romantic style, Flames of Prophecy is a fast read, with an engaging, strong heroine and plenty of action. How Marta manages to survive all her trials and to--perhaps--found a line of prophets in the English countryside--makes an intriguing, unusual story.

Spencer's an infamously well-known “god” uninterested in his own fate. He turns nineteen-years-old on the first day of his last year at Colt Academy, the academic institution for gladiators. To celebrate, he unwillingly mentors a mysterious nerd, watches his family's helicopter plunge into the ground, and meets a strange Louisianan boy that may want to kill him. With the future of his family's fortune on the line, Spencer not only has to fight the occasional trip to Hades, but also train with his most hated childhood friend, discover the truth about his mother's death, and reestablish his legend as America's savior.

......................I was shocked mute for a moment there.

The verdict is still out on this novel; and I have a feeling I will be revising this review repeatedly. I mean that in a good way…I’m torn between Epic, 5, and 4.5 hearts! After an interview with the author, I was thrilled to hear he was an Anime fan and drew inspiration from a popular show when writing this novel. My household watches Anime religiously via Anime Network, Adult Swim and online. No, I take that back.... there are certain shows we watch. Any who, I expected to see some paying homage to Bleach. I definitely saw a little of InuYasha similarities in the initial portrayal of Michelle and Spencer’s relationship. One thing that was definitely original was the Greek Mythology intertwined with futuristic technology.

My husband believes the author should transfer this into a graphic novel. I have to agree…I would love to reread this in comic form!

I’m so temped to go on my usual tangent of rambling, but I’m afraid I may say too much, so I’m trying terribly hard to restrain myself.

Whatever you do, don’t read the synopsis and take it at face value. Whoever wrote that needs a serious beat down. This story was so much more then that….OMG! I am so swoon emotional right now when I think of my dear Spencer….

*clearing my throat*

What that hell am I saying. Spencer was very sarcastic and kind of a jerk...so why did I still find him charming? Excellent writing skills I guess! This story has a way of drawing you in and wooing the reader into submission.

There was romance in this story, if you want to call it that. More like some high school guy's wet dream, that will never come to fruitation. Yes! I’m a hater! I know! But I found it so hard to believe Spencer was getting the lady’s with his less then charming personality in spite of some chemical reaction. I hated him…I loved him..and it went back and forth like that throughout my reading this. There was one mysterious character however that I never liked…then it’s like he’s thrown at you like he’s Luke ?!?!?! I don’t think so Dark Vader!

I’m sure I’ve terribly confused you by now, but give me time to short through my emotions and I’ll get back on track.

Umm, the gladiator style fight scenes in this book were off the chain. Seriously, the battles were epic. I could visually imagine each play by play. I found myself having many excited spasms startling people on the train. (Good thing I have no qualms about looking like a crazy person…lol…JK!) Oh and there was drama as well. With the way this book ended, I may result to stalking to be the first to see the next installment. I recommend this book to Anime Fans, science fiction and action lovers.

Kindle Edition, 1st Edition, 256 pages
Published October 23rd 2011
My rating: ♥♥♥♥♥
The strength of Sloane’s heart is about to be put to the ultimate test.

After the Eclipse – the night vampires began openly slaughtering human victims – everything changed. Out of fear, the government salvaged what remained of the human population and enclosed them in massive, security-laden cities called White Sectors, while marking the vampire infested territory as Red Sectors.

When seventeen-year-old Sloane McAllister’s twin brother disappears, she seems to be the only one who thinks he isn’t dead, and vows to stop at nothing to find him. Gathering her courage, she braves the Red Sector to search for clues to his whereabouts. By chance, she encounters Aden, a handsome, charismatic vampire with a hidden agenda. He turns Sloane against her will, and whisks her away to his underground city. Enemies quickly become friends as Sloane struggles against her attraction to Aden, and resists her growing loyalties to the creatures that ruined her life. But the vampires themselves are the least of her problems. The city is harboring a devastating secret, one that could change the tide of the war and threaten to destroy everything Sloane has come to believe in.

Heart-stopping action and scorching romance collide in this dystopian, urban fantasy thriller. (approx. 81,000 words or 256 pages)

I was given a copy of this novel from the author for any honest review!

WOW! The overall composition of this novel was Jedi mind trickery at its finest! There is no way I could have guessed all the events as they played out in this dystopian, urban fantasy thriller.

This novel takes us into a world riddled with a devastating discovery of vampires. Sloane lost her twin Orion and friend Rook the day the vampires revealed themselves in the most horrid manner. Three years later, unable to cope with the mystery of her brother’s death, she ventures back to the forbidden sector that was once her family’s home. It is there, she meets Aden, and her life is taken on a whirlwind of an adventure!

Sloane wasn’t the most kick ass heroine, I’ve ever met but she was definitely someone to be reckoned with. Here’s my all time favorite scene:

"I raced for the kitchen, careening into the cabinets as I flung open the knife drawer. Footsteps thundered toward me. Whirling around, I hurled one knife after the other as the men came through the doorway. Blades embedded themselves in their chests and foreheads, spraying blood along the wall. When I ran out of knives, I grabbed the biggest fork I could find and launched myself at the final man blocking my way. When he first saw the fork, he laughed-

Right before I shoved it into his open mouth, so hard the prongs dug into the back of his skull."

I was like a washed out high school quarterback watching the pros slam a touchdown at the Super Bowl on Thanksgiving when I read that scene. Like a proud papa bear, I leaped up so quickly, I almost broke my Nook! THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT! YEAH!

*Clearing my throat* *brushing the nonexistent lint from my lapel*

Pardon my outburst! This story almost read like a mystery novel, but like I said before, there was no way I could have guess all the events that took place.
There’s

♥ Betrayal,

♥ Romance,

♥ Secrets, &

♥ Assassination plots.
Oh and to just leave your heart in your throat, we’re left on a cliff hanger! The next installment of The Red Sector Chronicles is definitely on my radar!

I'm Katrina, founder of Kindred Dreamheart. I'm an aspiring junior & women's petite celebrity "red carpet" clothing designer and book lover. I read select genres. However if it's a series I'm sure I'd love it also regardless of the genre. I read when I want to be entertained; watch TV when I'm bored; and when I'm not designing something fabulous, I blog.
