Mock Up: Chaos and Lace

I just hate it when I find a really cute bulk of fabric, and can't think of a thing to do with it.
So I like to play with it for a while until something clicks...

In the process of draping I sometimes find other looks I like.

After a while, I move on and start working on something else.

And then I come back around to the original fabric and try to work it in.

Hummm!  I'm going to play with this some more.

Kindred Dreamheart - Portfolio Snippets

I was very productive on my birthday.  In spite of my pledge to chill, I found myself working on the entrance application for college. Any who I'm very proud of the videos I generated.  Go directly to the YouTube link to see the video credits under the "about" section.

Now I really can't wait to do the runway show in April to add onto my port!

Mock Up: April Runway Show

Hello Beautiful People!  You guys have been awesome and by your wonderful tips and advice, I've had time to focus on the designing process.  I've decided to continue with the "whimsical" collection entitled "Timeless Evolution" which was inspired by Alice in Wonderland.  I figured why not finish it by creating a look inspired from each character:  Queen of Hearts, Alice (all looks), the Tweedle Twins, The Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, Flamingo, Caterpillar etc.

Right now I'm working on Chester the cat (look # 2).

Okay so I've been shuffling through mounds of satin and silks.....*sigh* I absolutely love the texture of these two fabrics!  I've also been elbows deep in graphite and ink.

Here's some of my favorite drafts:

I've decided to continue to use the draping technique.
I'm trying to find the perfect color/visual combination.

The workers at my Jo-Ann's know me on a first name basis & I show them twitter love:

That's all for now.....back to the sewing room!

A Sew Happy Work Space

I finally stopped procrastinating and got around to unpacking my sewing & art room.  Now I'm really to embark on new projects.  Look out Baltimore....here I come!

Here's my little space of happiness:

I still have no place to set up my Yudu screen printer, but I'm thinking about leaving it in the box and taking it out as needed.  I also need a foldable cutting table.  Cutting on the floor sucks. Hummm time to go shopping.

Client Mock Up: A Gift for the Hubby #1

Okay so I never got around to making my hubby that suit coat for the hair show (bad wife, bad wife).  My wiggle dress took more time then I expected.  He was such a good sport about it all and wasn't even mad; but I still plan to make him a jacket.  I have 3 separate designs I'm debating over.  One is my rendition of his favorite "members only" 80's jacket (that went missing when we PCS'd from Birmingham).  The second design is a custom coat for him to wear at special events for work (he's a chef, btw).  The third design is just me having a little fun.  I plan to work on this in between my other client projects (maternity wear & steam punk photo shoot).

I plan to have the flats and mock up done, for look 1, within the next two weeks.

Client Mock Up: Me (All Done)

This is for those who requested to see the finished product from Client Mock-Up: Me #1 :

I was going for a 1940's vintage style wiggle dress!
I was inspired by Joan Harris-Holloway on Mad Men. This was made with denim!

Client Mock Up (Maternity): #1

I met with a new client today and did an on the spot sketch with flats.

This client wanted a simple yet versatile look that she can wear even after pregnancy; so I opted to design her an empire waist and halter style garment. She decided to go with the empire waist (Fabric provided by the client.):

This week I will focus on creating the muslin sample.

Client Mock Up: ME #1

Okay so I need something Kindred Dreamheart to wear to an event that will debut my first men's suit.

Here's my inspiration and progress:
Thanks to Uncle Sam and genetics I have an athletic build, so the best silhouette for my body type and the formality of this event is a classic wiggle dress w/ pearls. Oh and because of my youth, I'll use denim to avoid looking too old.  To play on today's trend, I will wear the snake skin pumps.

I hope to have this completed by Monday evening.  The show is on Friday, and my husband has requested I make him a suit coat.  I'll update you later.

Cheers,

Client Mock Up: Hair Show # 5

Okay, the jacket is 90% complete.  I only need to place and stitch down the shoulder boards and the zipper.  In fact, I'm thinking of doing that on site to ensure the best possible tailored fit.  I think I'll look into rental space so I can bring my sewing machine along and have a functioning area.

I plan to complete the alterations and sew the waistband on the trousers on Thursday and Friday.

After that, all that will be left is top stiching and pressing.

Here's a few photo updates:

I will confirm this last meeting NLT Saturday via telephone, or when I finish the trousers (whichever happen sooner).

Cheers,
