Penumbra by Elizabeth Delisi

Travel deep into unknown territory, where life and death are not as they seem; where machines dominate your days; where you have to be careful what you ask for, because you might get it; where magic is the norm, and stars really do grant wishes. These stories will take you beyond the realm of the solid and real, into the deepest, darkest corner of your imagination. Don't forget to bring your flashlight...

"It’s no small wonder that Ms. Delisi is such a good writer; she was born into authorship...What a nice trip into the Twilight Zone with such diverse stories. It’s a perfect book to take along with oneself to the doctor’s office, hairdresser, or any place where the wait for the appointment time can be long or short. The stories are the right length to afford one time to be able to finish a story in a short time. A very well written winner. Try it, you’ll like it." ~ Shirley Truax, All About Murder Reviews, 4 daggers

"Travel to faraway lands, and some not so faraway, where things are not always what they seem. Where true love can overcome even death or create a means to journey to the gods. Where time is only what you make of it. Learn how the many forms of perfection can include a "magically perfect" suburban family or simply someone who knows how to read and follow instructions. See how wishes can make you appreciate who and what you are, or destroy your life if you become obsessed with them. And know that, sometimes, help comes in the most unlikely places.

This collection of short stories is a remarkable work. Each character and situation is unique and will leave a lasting impression. If you enjoy Stephen King's short stories and the myriad of stories collected in "Tales from the Crypt" and "The Twilight Zone," this is definitely something you'll want to check out." ~ Amy L. Turpin, Timeless Tales Reviews, Rating: 5

Time to Love Again by Roseanne Dowell

The man next door, his granddaughter, and her sister’s ghost help bring Rose Asbury out of her seclusion.

Fifty-eight year old, Rose Asbury knows people think she’s a recluse, but she doesn’t care. She just wants to be left alone. She doesn’t need anyone and no one needs her and that’s just fine. At least she didn’t until this year. For some reason this year is different. Suddenly, she’s melancholy and discontent with her life.

And the man next door doesn’t help matters. He insists on speaking to her. So her stomach tumbles every time she sees him, that doesn’t mean anything. Hunger pangs, nerves, she just wishes he’d leave her alone. Or does she? To top it all off, his granddaughter and her friends insist on playing in her yard, sledding, building snowmen and throwing snowballs at her house.

Then her sister’s ghost shows up and Rose’s life changes drastically.

SHE DARED TO CHALLENGE A MERCILESS KILLER

Raised in an atmosphere of violence and unpredictability, Ellen and Gail Morgan have banded together, survivors of a booze-fertilized battleground, forming a fierce united front against an often cold and uncaring world. When their parents are killed in a car crash, Ellen becomes the mother figure for Gail.

When fifteen years later Gail is brutally raped and murdered in her shabby New York basement apartment, practically on the eve of her big breakthrough as a singer, Ellen is inconsolable. Rage at her younger sister's murder has nearly consumed her. So when her work as a psychologist wins her an appearance on the evening news, Ellen seizes the moment. Staring straight into the camera, she challenges the killer to come out of hiding: "Why don't you come after me? I'll be waiting for you."

Phone calls flood the station, but all leads go nowhere. The police investigation seems doomed to failure. Then it happens: a note, written in red ink, slipped under the windshield wipers of her car, 'YOU'RE IT.' Ellen has stirred the monster in his lair … and the hunter has become the hunted!

"Joan Hall Hovey hits another one out of the park with NOWHERE TO HIDE. The Canadian Mistress of Suspense brings her readers another taut, psychological, page-turner. This is an incredible read that will keep you up well past your bedtime late at night. It did to me. A book that is very hard to put down. After reading Hovey's CHILL WATERS and LISTEN TO THE SHADOWS, I thought these would be almost impossible to top. But Hovey does it. This is her best yet. I'd give it 6 stars if I could. The author has a remarkable ability to turn up the heat on the suspense. With great characterizations and dialogue, Hovey writes clearly and concisely with short chapters (a feature I really like) that prompts the reader to keep on turning pages. After fanning the flames of suspense, she ends the book ends with a fiery climax. Overall, a very satisfying read. Don't miss this one. I look forward to reading her latest, Night Corridor, now also available on Kindle." ~ James A. Anderson, Author of DEADLINE
