Q&A Week 5

Questions for Chapters 21-26
1. In Chapter 21, David and Sarah venture into a grocery store to try to find some essentials. Show us a picture of the top three items you consider your essentials when you go shopping.

MUST have my Mixed Chicks leave-in conditioner.
Hey I can fight the undead with frizzy hair...I can even be seen in public with frizzy hair....that's just unreasonable!
Must have my multi-vitamins. (This is some strong stuff.  If it can keep a cold away, it may keep the zombie virus from progressing.  Hummmm! Maybe not, but I can't live without it.)
Must have my chamomile tea!  It keeps me calm in most stressful of times!
2. Sarah and David travel quite a distance to “visit” a family member. Show us a picture of your most recent family vacation. Who did you visit and where did you go?

Last Summer, my husband and I went to Cordova, TN to host a charity fashion show.
Chris was the production coordinator and , of course, I was one of the fashion designers.
The other designer was his very talented sister, Danielle.

Me, Chris, Bridgette (My Best-from childhood- Friend), and Danielle.
3. Sarah refers to David’s sister as the Martha Stewart type because she likes to make things from scratch. Show us a picture a hobby or home project you get enthusiastic about making/doing.

I'm a fashion designer.  Any scrap of fabric is an excuse to sit down and sew.

4. David and Sarah decide to start up their own Zombie exterminators business, and even come up with a name and slogan for it, “S and D Zombie Extermination. We take care of your undead issues.” If you opened up your own zombie killing business, what would you call it, and what would your slogan be?

Zion

"We send those suckers to the Promised Land!"

5. What were your favorite/least favorite parts of Married with Zombies? Aside from David and Sarah, who was your favorite/least favorite character?

My favorite parts of Married with Zombies was the light humor.  It distracted me from being afraid of the horror content.  I'd admit these types of books give me nightmares, if not have me extra jumpy at night.  Chris said nothing memorable really just stuck out to him.
Our least favorite parts of Married with Zombies was the relationship issues.  Rather than add dynamics, it added annoyance.  There should have been more ass kicking.  Chis also is still really peeved about Amanda.
Our favorite character was the Asian girl.  We wish we saw more of her.  She could have been the third leg taking the story into a new direction.
Our least favorite character was Sarah.  I know the question said to omit her, but we just can't. She could have died a looong time ago.

6. What do you think is coming up next for David and Sarah?

Chris said, "Absolutely nothing."  I think if David and Sarah have really matured in their relationship, the writer can bring in a super sexy villian/sick kick.  He/she can initally be viewed as a side kick, but ultimately be the villian because he/she steals someone's heart and causes a rift.

Which do you think has a better chance of survival, their marriage or their humanity?

Is that a trick question? Of course they'll be married forever.  There's  no way to get a legal divorce with a zombie world.

Will you continue reading this series, and if so, what do you hope to see happen in the next book?

Chris says, "NO".  I say, "Maybe." We both believe the next book will be filled with stupidity & more stubbornness.  I'm hoping they wing in the super sexy character and shake things up a bit.

Chris Overall Rating 2.5
Katrina Overall Rating 3.5
Average: 3

Q&A Week 4

1. In chapter 16 David and Sarah are attacked by freezer zombies in chef attire. Despite its rotten food and disgusting kitchen, lets think about what it could of been before the attack, give me a picture of your dream kitchen or a pic of you cooking your favorite food in your own kitchen... or both!!!
The chandelier and lighting gives this kitchen a luxury feel.  (Picture Source)

This futuristic laboratory looking kitchen was Chris' pick.

2. In Chapter 16, David winds up killing those freezer zombies with a blank show me your best one....and yes it must be yours!!!!
My Iraqi war trophy shall speak for me!

3. In Chapter 17 David and Sarah find themselves with some cult like people and wind up trapped. How would you escape? Ropes? Blankets....show me your best.
I have more bins of fabric then we have furniture.  You bungee jump from a skyscraper with all this material.

4. In Chapter 19 David and Sarah find a surprise in the car they stole...in the midst of crazy its a nice welcome. Now whip me up your favorite one and share......you can include recipes!!
I love All kinds of honey wine, but the Germans make mead better.

5. In chapter 20, Sarah gets to kill a zombie with a cash register, bringing back memories of her worst retail job ever....so tell me whats the worst job you've had......if you can include pictures in your uniform I will die laughing.....or a picture of the place you worked will be good too...:).

I feel sorry for people who work for Disney.  I know first hand:  Working at the "happiest place on earth" doesn't make it the happiest job on earth.  I worked at Liberyland when I was in high school.  It was Memphis, TN only amusement park.  Now it's rubbish...good riddance!  (Picture Source)

Chris says....

I wish they would forget about their relationship already!  They're geting tiresome.

We're hanging in there.  One more week to go!

Q&A Week 3

Sorry about the late post yall.  We almost gave up on this book:

Me: *reading the part where "you know who" dies*

Chris: *interrupts* Babe!  I can't deal with "you know who" dying.  She was the buffer between them damn fools fighting.

Why couldn't the other get killed off? She was the stupid one.

(((((WARNING: *working up to go on a temper tangent ramble*))))))

That B**** talking about googling "divorce".  Why you talking about divorce?  B**** ain't no courts open now. Zombies every F***ing where.  This conversation is  ill-f***ing-relevant.  Did we not just shoot like 30 zombies together?  Ninety-nine problems and a B**** ain't one.  Ha! More like  99 zombies coming right around that corner, while you sitting here talking about old shit!

((((I love it when his ramblings sound like he in the story....too funny!))))

Me: *laughing while taking notes*  Okay Chris calm down.  You know my commander always said, "No B****ing on the battlefield." *Sets the book down and we turn on the TV*

This morning, my dear husband was calm enough for use to finish reading this week's chapters...

Now on to the Q&A:

1.) In Chapter 11 Sarah, Dave & Amanda were rushed by 4 zombies. At this time Sarah screams something.
SHOW ME YOURS!! Don't have one? That is ok, show me what you would grab outside to protect your self!!
Okay...you wanna play?!?!?  HOOAH!
((This is my don't F*** with me face.))

I'm reaching for that Mark 19 Grenade Launcher with the 40 mike-mikes!

2.) At the end of Chapter 12 they are saved by someone looking very "Underworld" awesome. Let me see your best "Slay em' Gear"
Don't want to model your outfit? That is ok, lay it out.. don't forget to add your weapons!!

I'm coming for you in full battle rattle!
(Yeah that's me too.)

Not pictured but readily available are the pot of grits. (What? You didn't know?  Hot grits ain't nothing to play with.  Ask Madea! *lol*

3.) Near the end of Chapter 13 Sarah finds something under the seat to help Dave, that she saved for whenever the need gave in. What was it? "Strike" your best pose!
We don't have one yet, but I would love one  of those cigarette lighter guns.  That with a can of hair spray will seriously mess a zombie up.

4.) Nothing very "action pic" happens in Chapters 14 & 15. So this is where you can show me what car you would pic to ride around town, trying to survive. This can totally be a "Google" pic or you can go find one!! Think outside the box!
There's nothing like a good old fashioned up armored hmmwv!

5.) How are you enjoying the book so FAR?!!!

Me: *reading the part where we meet the 'underworld' dressed chick*
Chris:  So that's the refill?  Cool because I didn't want to deal with just them.

See you guys again next week.  We can't wait to see what happens next.

Q&A Week 2

Here's what I'm working with!
*sigh* My husband is out of town and I didn't get the pictures taken before he left, so my pictures only contain the items. But the bright side of things is I will include some of his commentary in the end.

1.In Chapter 6, Sarah and Dave raid Amanda’s apartment for guns… When they come out they run into their super, Mr. Gonzales, when he tries to attract Sarah: What does she hit? Do you have one of these? You could totally bash some Zombie brains with one!Show me whatcha got! If you don’t have one of these, then anything that you would find in a hallway of an apartment building! (good luck!) lol
Yep it's right outside my door.  That line on the side connects to the alarm, so when the glass breaks the place will light up like a Christmas tree.  So I will be sure to expedite the bashing quickly before the noise draws more zombies to our location.

2. In Chapter 7, Sarah and David are watching a news report of the zombie attacks when the doctor on TV attacks the reporter… The news crew steps in and starts bashing the zombie with a _______, grab the nearest similar object (whatever’s handy) that you would use if you were attacked at WORK!

If a zombie catch me at work in my home studio, he/she will be sorely mistaken.  I AM NOT THE ONE.  I've got sewing machines, knitting needles, shears,...but I'm reaching for my store front grade male mannequin.  BRING IT!

3. Chapter 8… Amanda, Sarah and Dave are preparing to head out of town, and while they’re getting in the car, three zombies attack them! Sarah bashes one with the butt of her shot gun as instinct takes over, so whatcha got?

You’re getting in your car, fleeing the city- zombies attack, no guns or knives… What are you going to use to defend yourself??
Don't ask me why I had a ratchet strap in my car!  *lol*  Soldiers are always prepared.

My husband is still on board with me to reading aloud so he can follow the story also. We got really excited when the violence broke out.

Here's some of his jargon: Weapons? I'm snacking zombies legs off and knocking another's head off. What would I use? I'm using body parts. I'm going HAMMER TIME.....ancient Japanese Wu Shu on their ass. All I need is some fingernail clippers. With their flesh decomposing, that gives ease. Pow! Wow! *martial arts reenactments* Yeah! That's what I'd do! I'll F*** a zombie up!

The only thing that'll scare me is a gangsta zombie. *DMX voice* "Aye yo B**** I want some brains. *growling*

I laughed so hard I had stomach cramps and still couldn't stop.

4. In Chapter 9 & 10 there aren’t any zombie killings… That we could replicate!!!  So, give me a couple of your favorite quotes from Chapters 5-10!!!

But my shock at the ridiculousness of her appearance faded as she let out a roar ad from behind her came five more stripper zombies, like she was their leader calling for a charge.  (pg 93)
I should have known that having "end of the world" sex wouldn't  solve our problems.    Though, it was pretty great and I highly recommend it.  It's one of the big benefits of an apocalypse that no one tells you about.  It just makes everything...better, because you know it might be the last time every time. (pg 78)

Q&A Week 1
My perfect arsenal.
1. In chapter 2 Sarah has to put her marriage therapist "to rest" with a letter opener. Let's see your weaponized letter opener in mid-action! No letter opener? Think fast! You need to rescue your friend/significant other! What are you going to use when no actual weapons are available? No knives, no guns! Show me what you've got!
LOL!  A heart shaped rock that I painted.  I use it as a paper weight.
2. In chapter 2 Sarah is wrestling with Dr. Kelly and David can't seem to find a weapon to help his dear wife with. Until...Sarah yells at him to use something on Dr. Kelly's body, which he grabs and smashes into her head. I want to see your most killer pair of this item!
My favorite boots doubles as a handy weapon.
3. In chapter 3, Sarah hears an unexpected noise in the bathroom while she's nervously peeing. She grabs "the closest thing there was to a weapon in the room". I want a picture of the same type of item that is closest to you....no soft edges people. They won't do the brain damage necessary to kill the living dead.
The thickest book I own is about Egyptians.
4. At the end of chapter 5, Dave gives Sarah a weapon just before they are leaving their apartment to pay a little visit to Jack & Amanda's apartment. Let's see a picture of yours (same type of item).
My handy ARMY issued OD green flashlight.  Nice & heavy and never dies.
5. How do you feel about the book up to this point? Any thoughts you want to share?

I'm reading this aloud as my husband listens.  I'm thinking he should start his own blog, because he's been providing alot of commentary.  He wants everyone to know he is an official Zombie-ASS-Kicker!  What with the actual crazies in the news, we're taking notes...JUST IN CASE.  So far we're loving Married with Zombies.

I can't wait to see what next week brings both with the story and this hunt.

Cheers,

Masquerade Read-Along April 1 - 28, 2012: Final Week (Q & A)

Chapters 24-31 Final Discussion Questions
1. Heven develops a new “supernatural power”. She remarks that it isn’t that exciting of a power. Is this a power you would like to have, if not what kind of supernatural power would you like to have?
I’ll admit that at first I thought her “supernatural power” was kind of lame.  I was like, “why can’t she be telepathic or telekinetic?” But then I read another book where ironically the character has the same power.  It was then that I realized being able to (don’t want to ruin it for other readers so I’m not saying) goes hand and hand with reading thoughts.  Now I’m satisfied.  If Heven can only learn how to control her power; it’ll make for a very interesting gift.

2. Which character do you think makes the biggest internal change throughout the course of this book? Is there a situation in your life that you can reflect back on as an experience that changed your life for the better?
Heven of course!  Rebuilding her confidence was a miraculous and very rewarding improvement.  I’ve had many eye opening experiences; but the biggest was when I served in the military.  I fought in Iraq.  Being that close to death and seeing bad stuff for over the years can definitely make you reflect on the value of your life; the impact you make on others; and the memory you leave when you leave this world of the living.  I used to have a very short temper.  Now it’s like I try very hard not to let the small things get to me.  I survived and a lot of my battle buddies weren’t as blessed; so I might as well start acting appreciative of my life and show people around me patience and more kindness.  I’m not perfect; and I may slip from time to time, but I’m very conscious of my actions and the way I use my words now.

3. Who is your favorite character and why?
Grams!  I love her.  Her unconditional love just reminds me so much of my own grandmother.

4. When the book ends the reader has an idea of what the next book will involve. Do you think the book ended in the appropriate place?
Not so much.  I wish it would have ended right when Sam saw and recognized his brother.  In short, I wish it was a cliff hanger (doom….doom…doom…. TO BE CONTINUED)!  It sort of started to frustrate me seeing that the little brother was going to be like torn in the side.  I wanted to at least hope that Sam and Heven would progress with their relationship, and then here he comes.  I bet he’s going to be a serious “player hater” and “blocker” also known as interference and #1 distraction.

5. Do you have any predictions for the next book in the series, Charade?
Yep, so they’re going to go to Rome.  Kimmie will be chugging Hater-Aide while her boyfriend lusts after Heven.  Sam’s going to be all jealous and ready to fight over it; while his little brother tries to straighten the wedge while working for the enemy.  Yes, I think he’s evil.  Heven is going to feel alone even with everyone there because they won’t see the “great divide” going on until the very end.  All these weird things are going to be gunning for Heven; but everyone’s going to be too busy fighting to come to her rescue.  So her powers are going to advance quicker due to the stress.  She’s going to save the day.  The friends will inadvertently find out the truth.  Then everyone’s going to make up and be happy again.  Oh and no one will ever know the little brother is EVIL.  (lol, I have a very active imagination.)

6. Did you enjoy participating in this read along? Will you join in future read alongs?

I LOVED IT!  It forced me to analyze as I read.  I am not at all a professional reviewer; and never give it this much thought.  I am ALL emotion.  Just call me a book enthusiast.  I would absolutely love to sign up for any and all future read alongs.  I often gossip about books with my friends and family, who are non-readers, and they never “get it”.  This is a much better outlet.

Well you guys, it's been alot of fun.  I truly mean that.  I may not have been able to respond to everyone and every week, but I've enjoyed reading everyone's contributions via my Kindle.  I feel like this experience has brought me that much closer to being a blogger addict and loving this book that much more!

Cheers,

Masquerade Read-Along April 1 - 28, 2012: Week 3 (Q & A)

Readalongbadge
WEEK THREE Questions:
April 19th – Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings
Chapters 16-24
5 Discussion Questions
1.       Heven’s mother has definite ideas about Heven and her scars – what they mean – and their relationship is strained. Do you think their relationship can be saved?
Nuh uh!  I had a serious WTF moment when I read that……*took a pause…looked around* like when someone says something utterly stupid, has a self satisfying look on their face, everyone else is carrying on as usual, and you’re asking yourself if you’re the only one who heard that.  Self: “Did she really say that to her own daughter?  And mean it?”  I’m just as hurt as Heven!  There isn’t any going back after that.  Some things can’t be taken back, no matter how sorry she may be after the fact.  Words cut deeper than a machete sometimes.
 2. Sam tells Heven about how he came to be living on his own, how his parents kicked him out after he became what he is. He doesn’t seem angry though, he seems to accept it. Would you be angry? Do you think he should be?
I wouldn’t be mad.  I can imagine the confusion of transforming into something unknown as the age of thirteen and thinking you’re a monster.  It must have been traumatizing and demeaning at the same time.  When you think you’re evil, it’s kind of hard to get mad at another for rejection.  It’s when you think higher of yourself that you would be upset about it.
 3. During these chapters, Heven and Sam visit the Inbetween and meet Airis (aka The Hope). Were you surprised by this series of events? Do you think a place like the InBetween really exists?
I was very surprised!  I was practically embarrassing myself on the train giggling out loud to myself.  I didn’t think anyone would get mortally injured.  I was so sad for a moment there.  Yes I believe in an Inbetween.  Why not?  When I was in the military, every time I had a change of duty or deployment of any kind, I had to first go through a transition point.  It was a facility for reception and pre-orientation into every new tour.  Whenever you travel abroad, the customs at the airport or boarder is the same thing.   So it only makes sense that there would be a waiting area after death and between heaven and hell.
 4. When Heven’s scars are no longer a part of her and she says “she no longer recognizes herself” – do you think that the absence of her scar will change her once more?
I sure hope not, but there’s no guarantee.  Sometimes God send us through trials and tribulations, and then bring us through.  We’re the perfect angels right after, but sometimes we forget the pain and go back to, if not get worst then before.  I don’t think Heven was a bad person before, but I do think she was naive and didn’t value herself.  I hope she remembers that “everyone is not her friend” and have a little more self confidence.
 5. Gran is very accepting of Heven and of Sam. Do you think that she understands more – knows more than she lets on about Heven’s life or do you think her love is just unconditional?
OMG…that’s exactly what I was thinking.  Grams got some kind of secret powers or something.  I think she may even be on to Sam’s sneaking in at night and hanging around.  Age doesn’t make you stupid; it just means you know all the tricks.  In regards to Heven, I think she really loves her grand-daughter; yet she’s definitely wise to more than the story is revealing right now.

It’s been tough but we’re almost done!  ONE LAST READING SESSION!
