Waiting On Wednesday (7)

Hosted by Breaking The Spine

Death Rides AgainDeath Rides Again (Jocelyn Shore #3)
by Janice Hamrick
Hardcover, 336 pages
Expected publication: June 18th 2013 by Minotaur Books

Texas high school teacher Jocelyn Shore’s family reunion is getting smaller by the minute with each suspicious death in the latest in Janice Hamrick’s award-winning mystery series
With the unmistakable sound of a break action shotgun snapping closed, Texas high school teacher Jocelyn Shore shoots out of bed in the bunkroom on her family’s ranch. It seems that her Uncle Kel, who is hosting the family for Thanksgiving, is none too happy about how his son-in-law Eddy has been treating his daughter Ruby June, and tensions have risen to about the level of a .12 gauge. Luckily, cooler heads prevail—mostly Jocelyn’s—and while breakfast isn't the end of Eddy, the end of Eddy and Ruby's marriage isn’t too far off. She may have even tossed him out later that day. No one knows for sure since no one can find her. The family pins the disappearance on Eddy, but he seems to have been everywhere in Sand Creek but home, and it isn't until Jocelyn and her sometimes boyfriend Austin Homicide Detective Colin Gallagher find Eddy's body at the bottom of a caliche pit that the town starts to take notice. Unfortunately, all eyes—including Colins's—are on Jocelyn's family as the primary suspects. She can't believe it. Someone else had to have it in for Eddy, but who and why, and even more importantly where’s Ruby June?
With more suspense, romance, and humor than can be fenced in on a single ranch Janice Hamrick’s Death Rides Again is another outstanding addition to her award-winning mystery series.
The Jocelyn Shore mystery series is one of my guilty pleasures!  I can't wait to read this one.

School Spirits (School Spirits, #1)School Spirits (School Spirits #1)
by Rachel Hawkins
Hardcover, 304 pages
Expected publication: May 14th 2013 by Disney-Hyperion

Fifteen-year-old Izzy Brannick was trained to fight monsters. For centuries, her family has hunted magical creatures. But when Izzy’s older sister vanishes without a trace while on a job, Izzy's mom decides they need to take a break.
Izzy and her mom move to a new town, but they soon discover it’s not as normal as it appears. A series of hauntings has been plaguing the local high school, and Izzy is determined to prove her worth and investigate. But assuming the guise of an average teenager is easier said than done. For a tough girl who's always been on her own, it’s strange to suddenly make friends and maybe even have a crush.
Can Izzy trust her new friends to help find the secret behind the hauntings before more people get hurt?
Rachel Hawkins' delightful spin-off brings the same wit and charm as the New York Times best-selling Hex Hall series. Get ready for more magic, mystery and romance!

I have an ARC galley of this, but I'm anticipating the hardback so I can add it to my "Hex Hall" pretty cover collection!

17 & Gone17 & Gone
by Nova Ren Suma
Hardcover, 354 pages
Expected publication: March 21st 2013 by Dutton Juvenile

Seventeen-year-old Lauren is having visions of girls who have gone missing. And all these girls have just one thing in common—they are 17 and gone without a trace. As Lauren struggles to shake these waking nightmares, impossible questions demand urgent answers: Why are the girls speaking to Lauren? How can she help them? And… is she next? As Lauren searches for clues, everything begins to unravel, and when a brush with death lands her in the hospital, a shocking truth emerges, changing everything.
With complexity and richness, Nova Ren Suma serves up a beautiful, visual, fresh interpretation of what it means to be lost.

I tend to border the outskirts of crowds.  I noticed this one, but I purposely didn't request an ARC because so many had already.  Yet I can't deny that I am very curious to see if it's worth the hype.

Trade Paperback, 352 pages
Expected publication: March 5th 2013 by Orbit

Shapeshifter Mercy Thompson's life is calming down, at least enough that she can focus on mundane matters like Black Friday sales. But on her return, Mercy is unable to contact her mate, Alpha Adam Hauptman, or the other members of their pack. All she knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam's disappearance may be related - and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from the most unlikely of allies: the vampirey seethe.
I discovered this series when I took a chance on a cool looking cover on the restock chart at the public library.  I've been hooked ever since. "River Marked" (book # 6) was so low on the drama meter, I was almost afraid it was the last one!  I've patiently waited for this. Bring it!
