Is his commitment to the Rebel cause stronger than his hard-won love for Anne? Will her sacrifice tear them apart again...this time forever? Or will they find the peace and happiness they both seek in a new beginning?

The Partisan’s Wife follows Anne and Peter through the war torn landscape of Revolutionary War America, from the Battle of Saratoga to New York, Philadelphia and beyond.

Lord Esterleigh's Daughter
The Serpent's Tooth Trilogy, Book 1

As a child, Anne Fairfield dreams of the father she never knew, the hero who died fighting the French and their Indian allies in a land across the sea. Her mother’s stories, and fantasies of her own devising, sustain and nurture her through a poor and lonely existence. Until one winter night, a strange man comes to call, and the life she has known comes crashing down like shattered glass.

Forced to confront sordid truths, secrets and lies, the headstrong young woman begins to learn that, like generations of Darvey women ruled by their hearts, she is destined to follow in their footsteps.

Set against the backdrop of 18th century England, Lord Esterleigh’s Daughter is the first book in “The Serpent’s Tooth” trilogy, which follows Anne from the rural countryside, to London society and into the center of the American Revolution.

Courting the Devil
The Serpent's Tooth Trilogy, Book 2

Four years after a near fatal blunder uproots her from her home and inheritance, Anne Darvey, daughter of the Marquess of Esterleigh, finds herself an indentured servant on a farm near Fort Edward in New York, as the British army advances toward Albany. Driven by guilt over the pain she has caused her father and grief over her lover’s death, she sets out to deliver a message. The consequences lead to the discovery that all is not as it seems, and sets in motion events that lead to love and danger.

Set against the backdrop of the American Revolution, Courting the Devil is the second book in “The Serpent’s Tooth” trilogy, which follows Anne from her childhood in the rural English countryside, to London society, and into the center of the American Revolution.

Winter Fire

When Ethan Caine pulled the unconscious woman from the half-frozen creek, he had no idea that his world was about to explode. Dressed in clothes of Iroquois design and on the run for a murder she might have committed, she stirred up dark secrets from his Indian fighting past. Yet she was everything he desired. He needed to know the truth.

He needed to find a way to trust her.

Banished by the Seneca who had adopted and raised her, ostracized by the whites in the settlement, Zara Grey wanted only to be accepted. "Ethancaine" treated her with kindness and concern. It was easy to trust him. But her Indian ways disturbed him, and in her heart she would always be Seneca.

"Reminiscent of 'Last of the Mohicans' with its raw, haunting mood, Winter Fire, by Kathy Fischer-Brown, is a compelling story of love and hate, acceptance, and forgiveness. Oft times painful, it is a rich, exciting read through a dark time told exquisitely by an exceptional writer."  --Bonnie Napoli, author of Shadows of the Eclipse

5 Stars for Winter Fire by Kathy Fischer-Brown

"A well-crafted story of two misfits, Zara Grey and Ethan Caine. Zara was captured by the Iroquois as a child and lived with them for 15 years. Afterr she's found and brought back to live with a cruel uncle who has promised her in marriage, a marriage Zara does not want. Ethan is considered by the town to be the Coward of Clatkson's Mill. And he's lonely. When Ethan saves her from an icy plunge into the creek and takes her back to his cabin, he sees how badly she's been beaten. But then he learns she's been accused of murdering the uncle. What happens next is the charm of the story. Winter Fire is a nicely done historical romance." 5 Stars, Katie Kindle, Amazon Reader and Verified Purchase

When his case runs smack dab into her past life, both of them are forced to make choices they never dreamed possible in an attempt to salvage their relationship, and possibly even save their lives.

"Family Ties started out with a bang and kept me on my toes throughout the entire book. Ms. Hill did an outstanding job with the plotline, and I was literally biting my nails the entire time I was reading. I couldn't put this fast paced, action packed book down. I HAD to find out what happened next. It was addicting. Ms. Hill has a gift of hooking the reader and not letting go until the very last word. And even then, there was a description of Family Secrets (the first book in the series). It's now on my HAVE TO BUY list. So let me just leave you with this one suggestion. You really want to go out and buy this book. It's a 114 page book that is filled with every emotion you can think of. You won't want to miss this one. Ms. Hill is an author to watch." ~ Val, You Gotta Read Reviews, 5 Stars

New Interview with author Kathy Fischer-Brown

Books We Love Welcomes Kathy Fischer-Brown to the blog today!

KFB: I have been telling stories for as long as I can remember, and wrote and illustrated my first story in the first grade. My life-long love of early American history can be traced back to the many family vacations up and down the east coast, where my Civil War buff father photographed me and my sisters perched on cannons at every major fort and battlefield from Canada to Virginia. I have since written seven novels, was a finalist in RWA's Golden Heart contest (with Winter Fire) and placed and won a number of chapter contests with a variety of historical and time travel novels.

I indulged my need to be creative in college by majoring in dramatic arts, pursued a short-lived acting career in the Big Apple, went on to earn an MFA in acting, got married, taught drama at a small all-girls liberal arts college in Indiana, moved around a bit, and then finally settled down and had two kids (now grown). Over the years, I dabbled in careers in advertising, children's media publishing, and higher education reform in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. A Bronx native, I spent my "Wonder Years" on Long Island and now live in central Connecticut with my teacher/director/playwright husband and three dogs. When not writing, I enjoy cooking, photography and computer graphics, tennis, gardening, classical and fold music, the New York Yankees, and the UConn women's basketball team.

BWL: How long have you been writing and in what genres?

KF-B: Even before I learned to spell, I was writing. In fourth grade, I "borrowed" my dad's manual Underwood and wrote my first novel.  Since then, I've been writing what I like to read--historical romances, time travel and now I'm trying my hand at fantasy.

BWL: Where you do get your inspiration?

KF-B:  I can honestly say that most of my story ideas come to me in dreams. Sometimes the gist isn't immediately apparent and only after years (in some cases), everything begins to fall into place. I tend to have cinematic dreams, so they make for great entertainment...until I wake up and try to make sense of them.  Other ideas grow out of history and the magic "what if" scenario.  For example, the idea for Winter Fire came while I was reading a biography about Mary Jemison, a woman who was captured by Seneca Indians as a teenager in the 1760s and became an integral part of the tribe over the course of her long, long life.

BWL: Tell us about your book.

KF-B: As I mentioned, I was inspired to write Winter Fire after immersing myself in the so-called "captive narratives" of the 17th and 18th century, which were extremely popular reading back in those days.  I was fascinated by people like Mary Jemison and others who adapted so thoroughly to their new lives that they sometimes forgot their native languages and either refused to return home when given the chance or had difficulty readjusting.  Zara, the heroine in my book, is based on that premise.

BWL: What about your next book?  Will it be part of a series or a stand alone?  Can you give us a taste to whet our appetites?

KF-B: I'm currently working on an epic fantasy I've tentatively titled "Sword of Names."  It's an intricate story with a little of everything--cross-dressing, mistaken identity, lies and betrayal, magic, potions and sword play, good guys against bad guys, and of course romance.  It will be either one large book several of smaller ones.

BWL: Why did you choose to publish electronically?

KF-B: E-publishing is a concept that has been a long time coming. Now with the Nook and Kindle up there with the must-have gadgets and the idea of saving resources, it makes sense in so many ways as an alternative to traditional publishing.

BWL: What are your hobbies and interests?

KF-B: I love to cook, for one. Photography is another of my passions from back in the Dark Ages when my father helped me construct a darkroom in our basement when I was a kid.  As an outgrowth of that, I’ve been playing around with 3D graphics programs.  I'm also a big fan of the UConn women's basketball program and the NY Yankees.

BWL: What does the future hold for you?

KF-B: As a breast cancer survivor, I try not to think too much about the future. Instead, I hope to make the most of the here and now, enjoying my family and making a stab at accomplishing what I can while I can. Of course, I hope to keep writing, because there are lots of stories in my head, all vying for their chance to come alive.

BWL: Where can readers find you?

KF-B: Second star on the right and straight on til morning...or they can email me at kathyfb@cox.net.  I also have a web page: www.kfischer-brown.com and I'm on facebook.
